Fall 2020 Information
For the Fall, assuming we do not have another mandated shut down, I am giving students the option of in-person or online lessons.
Fall 2020 will be 15 weeks beginning the week of August 17. There will be no lessons the week of Thanksgiving, and ALL lessons will be online lessons after Thanksgiving week to minimize the potential of sharing germs after a typically high-travel week (there should only be 1 lesson left after Thanksgiving unless we have makeups).
I will be scheduling gaps between each family to allow me to have time to sanitize the keyboard and other frequently touched surfaces (doorbell, doorknob, piano bench, music stand, etc.).
For in-person lessons, if you (or any member of your family) get sick, or if I (or any member of my family) get sick, we will revert to online lessons for as long as necessary. In the past, I have required 24 hours notice for a cancellation; I can switch from an in-person setup to online setup very quickly, so I only need 15 minutes notice if you need to switch to an online setup due to illness. If the student is so ill that they will not be able to have a synchronous online lesson at their lesson time, we can make up the lesson asynchronously via video exchange.
For in-person piano lessons, students will be asked to wear a mask and sanitize their hands (I will do the same). I also have a touchless thermometer so that I can do temperature checks.
I have measured and all my furniture is approximately 6 ft. from the piano, so for piano lessons, I will be sitting in the armchair near the TV rather than right next to the student.
For in-person voice lessons, we will have lessons outside until it is too cold to be outside, at which point we will revert to online lessons. I will set up a music stand on the porch for the student; the living room window will be open and I will be inside so that I will have access to the piano. I will come outside with the student if necessary, maintaining a distance of 10-12 ft. If it is raining, we can shift to both being in the carport maintaining a distance of 10-12 ft.
